David is hunted, hiding in the wilderness, and afraid. And the 1 Samuel 23:16 says: "And Jonathan, Saul's son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God." Jonathan went down into the wilderness to find him. It was hard, dry, broken country, and the very place where Saul's men were searching. He crossed dangerous wilderness, toward the man his own father wanted dead, just to strengthen his friend's hand in God.
And notice what he strengthened, it wasn't David's circumstances (those didn't change; Saul was still hunting him), but David's hand in God. Jonathan couldn't call off the manhunt. He couldn't promise David the throne or make the fear go away. What he could do was go find his friend in the wilderness and remind him that God had not forgotten him and his promises were still true.
It's often easy to stay away from hurting people, sometimes it's because we feel helpless and unable to fix it, sometimes it's because we think we'd be in the way. Jonathan didn't bring a solution. He brought God. You don't need every answer to strengthen someone's hand in God. You need to be near and direct them to the One who is still there and faithful even in the darkest valleys. Sometimes the most important thing you can do for someone under their own broom tree is go, sit down beside them, and remind them who God is.
